London’s Design Museum has just announced that next year, it will host a major exhibition celebrating the career and worldwide impact of Azzedine Alaïa, a project that was in progress before the designer’s sudden passing last month.
Scheduled to open at the museum’s new Holland Park home in May, ‘Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier’ will showcase more than 60 examples of the master craftsman’s work from the past 35-years, personally selected for display from his archive in collaboration with guest curator Mark Wilson of the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands. Alaïa also spent time documenting his creative process for the retrospective.
Specially commissioned sculptures and design works by Konstantin Grcic and Marc Newson, as well as the artist Kris Ruhs will also be featured. Alaïa collaborated with Ruhs in 2015, inviting him to show at his Paris gallery.
‘Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier’ will open on 10th May and run until 7th October, 2018.
