“DVF has always delivered clothes that are your best friends in the closet,” said brand founder Diane von Furstenberg. And indeed, the creator of the iconic wrap dress has always put function as well as fashion at the forefront of her now 45-year old label. Speaking at the launch of the company’s latest Resort collection, which Carmen stopped by to see firsthand when she visited the Fashion Trust Arabia Pop-Up at DVF’s HQ, von Furstenberg went on to explain the concept of “solutions dressing”, and the importance of ease when it comes to a woman’s wardrobe. And echoing this, the ten looks presented on Monday were created not only to complement one another, but were designed with customers’ lifestyles firmly in mind.
Entitled ‘Rendevous’, the capsule collection features a selection of polished pieces that will take the wearer from office, to gallery opening, to cocktail party. Wrinkle-resistant fluid jersey and merino wool ensure fuss-free dressing, and multi-functional pieces, including a wrap blouse that can be worn front-to-back or back-to-front, deliver on versatility. And while the concept of a mix and match collection may imply an air of restraint when it comes to color palette, a statement-making brushstroke motif in swirls of bold shades was a welcome surprise, if not entirely unexpected. “The goal is to revive the retro 70s essence of the brand, reissuing heritage prints with a modern twist,” said DVF’s new Brand Director, Sabrina Shahnazarian.
The focus on lifestyle has also led to an expansion of the brand’s eveningwear offering, in direct response to a call from customers. And so floor-length gowns now provide a glamorous addition to the collection.
