This December, Italy’s Triennale di Milano will debut an exhibition dedicated to the work of designer Rick Owens. This will be the first retrospective showcasing the Californian-born, Paris-based creative’s talent, and spans a career that began in New York back in 1994.
Titled ‘Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman’, Owens had complete artistic control over the exhibition, which will display a range of pieces from his extensive archive that demonstrate the breadth and scope of his work. A selection of his clothing designs will sit alongside furniture, films, graphics and publications, as well as a site-specific sculptural installation that he has created for the exhibition.
Presented as a 'Gesamtkunstwerk', or total work of art, the show will question the notions of beauty and acceptability, a constant theme that runs though Owens’ métier.
‘Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman’ opens on 15th December and runs through to 25th March.
