ABOUT OSOMTEX
Osomtex was founded in 2015 following extensive research and product development trials. The business model is centred on diverting post-consumer and post-industrial textile waste from landfill by turning it into high quality fibers and yarns.
Its proprietary process deploys state of the art technology to upcycle textiles which, as well as reducing waste, eliminates the need for cotton farming, does not make use of water or dyes and also reduces the need of harmful pesticides.
OSOMTEX operates monthly waste management pick-ups across the US and the company also accepts direct shipments to their factories. Their latest innovation facility in Miami, which opened in 2022, has a monthly processing capacity of 1 Million pounds of textile waste.
Their closed loop development program – which includes: analysis, development, commercialization and production – can be tailored to suit a company’s individual yarn formulation, type of waste and upcycled product goals and they offer both knit and woven fabrics.
OSOMTEX’ most notable partnerships include the Vapormax uniform and shoes used by the USA Olympic Team at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, the Stella McCartney socks – made with 85% upcycled yarn – that were gifted to guests at the brand’s A/W 2018 show, and the Nike Space Hippie collection of shoes available in stores today.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Patricia Ermecheo is a social and environmental entrepreneur who graduated from a science school and who studied design in Venezuela and the USA. Her curiosity and exploratory nature are what led her to research solutions for repurposing discarded clothing and to set up a circular supply chain in the fashion and textile industries.
To date, the OSOMTEX process has diverted more than 30 Million pounds of textile waste from landfill and Patricia is the first woman to ever open a factory like this in the USA.
